Teachers truly are the backbone of society. They are role models to children; they offer guidance and dedication to young minds. As mentors, they can form students into future leaders who then form the destiny of the nation.

The Story is about Remedial Class Teacher Meena who has demonstrated her skills and knowledge as a teacher since the establishment of Remedial Classroom in her village by SUVIDHA under SBI Foundations Gram Seva Program. Children are showing great improvement under her guidance. Her support also compensates for the lack of resources in the Village.

Rauni is a remote village in Kiri Gram Panchayat, in Chamba, Himachal Pradesh. Chamba is the only aspirational district of Himachal Pradesh and for this reason, SUVIDHA is implementing the Gram Seva Program of SBI Foundation for comprehensive development.  It takes 75 minutes of steep mountain hiking to reach Rauni. The terms like roads, development, and opportunities are long-awaited to reach Rauni Village.

Here lives our 23-year-old remedial school teacher Meena. Two years ago, Meena graduated from Government College, Chamba; but unlike her male counterparts, she could not migrate to other cities for better career opportunities.

Looking at the geo conditions of Rauni Village, SUVIDHA initiated to setup Remedial Classroom in the village where just one Govt. Primary school with two rooms and one teacher exists.

According to Meena, she’s having a great experience with children. Children are eager to come to remedial classes. She happily affirms every day is a new surprise for herself and her students. She claims that she’s learning along with students, The students have started taking a keen interest in attending regular school and stated taking initiative after joining Remedial Classes, as confirmed by Ashraf Mohamad, Govt Primary School Teacher. 

Meena regularly meets with parents to understand each student’s learning challenges. Then, using the Internet she learns new and innovative techniques to address these complex learning challenges.

According to Parents, Children have shown great improvement after attending remedial classes, they are proactive in doing their homework and their handwriting has also improved.

As mentioned by Ashraf Mohamad, students are now regular in school, they have improved and learn new things faster. He gladly accepts the fact that it’s the outcome of remedial classes and Meena’s hard work which has made his work easy.

A total of 171 students are studying in five Remedial Classrooms across five villages of Kiri Gram Panchayat in Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh.
